The Timilty School Partnership
Activities School Year 2014-2015
In fall of 2014, the Peoples Baptist Church (Boston) and North River Community Church (Pembroke) Partnership entered their fourth year of another effort to serve the Timilty Middle School (Boston) together. The Congregation Lion of Judah (Boston) also joined the Partnership for Educational Excellence team this year to help the school more effectively reach the Spanish-speaking population. Together, they prayed, planned, and met with the principal, administrators, and staff members at the Timilty to find ways in which the churches could come alongside the school to encourage and lend a hand to help them strive to reach their goals.
This year, they have continued resourcing the teachers by providing 6th grade teachers and aides with classroom supplies, and students with books exploring “Making Wise Choices in My Middle School Years.” 15 students were mentored last year. They look toward developing new relationships with the current 6th graders as their last group of students has moved on to various high schools. Mentees have enjoyed recreational activities as well as opportunities in the arts by attending the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater together. Parent Engagement is being supported by developing various workshops addressing character development training with parent feedback.
They also continue to support Career Day for students and teachers where approximately 40 professionals from their churches explain what they do today and the role that education played in the process.
